"Only for Three Months" by na-maraThe song tells the story of the 4,000 child refugees who came to England from Bilbao in May 1937, to escape the bombing and starvation following the carpet bombing of Guernica by Franco's fascist forces. Music by Javier Tejedor and words by Paul McNamara. It was performed at the Whitechapel Gallery in London as part of the International Brigades Memorial Trust commemorations, July 2009, in front of the full-size tapestry of Picasso's Guernica that was on loan from the UN building in New york as part of Goshka Maguca's installation, 'The Nature of the Beast'. Picasso's painting was exhibited at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1938/39 to raise money for the refugees and the Republican cause; many, unable to offer money left pairs of shoes and boots instead which were piled on the floor beneath the graet painting.Na-mara website http://www.myspace.com/namaramusicAbout Guernica: the bombing of the town, Picasso's painting and the Whitechapel exhibition http://www.shapesoftime.net/edit/editor.asp?uniqid=12397
