Just as the previous century was dominated by the exploration of sub-atomic space and outer space, the present century will be dominated by the exploration of inner space. In every field of scientific exploration, we are standing at a borderline where we are forced to recognise a new Factor X without which we cannot proceed further. This new Factor is consciousness, and an entire new field of “consciousness studies” has opened to humanity. But it is a new and uncharted field where science is still fumbling. India, on the other hand, has been exploring the field of consciousness for thousands of years. It has not only charted out the vast and multi-faceted realms of consciousness, but has also developed methods and technologies by which this domain and its processes can be mastered.
