“We’re Entrepreneurs. We Can Help” pushes the edge on what it is to be an entrepreneur. As we’ve done the show over the last few months, we’ve found that a critical component of entrepreneurism is collaboration. And we’re learning, maybe a little reluctantly, that younger folks are better collaborators than Baby Boomers. The guests on this show are members of the Earth Heroes from Boys and Girls Club at Carver Community School, members of the Hoover STARS, and the Lamoni Middle School Alley Kids. All of these kids participated in Global Youth Service Day in mid-April. Nearly 3,000 kids made their neighborhoods and communities better places as part of this initiative of the Iowa Commission on Volunteerism. Melissa Simmermaker coordinates the program in Iowa. She tells us what Global Youth Service Day is all about, and the concept of service learning. We go on to a conversation about what the kids did, what they learned, how they felt about it, and where they go from here. Guests on the show included— • From the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service— • Melissa Simmermaker, Program Coordinator • Jessica Krough, Service-Learning AmeriCorps VISTA • From the Earth Heroes of the Boys and Girls Club at George Washington Carver Community School— • Jason, Jose and Aries • From the Hoover High School STARs— • Katie Steingrabe • Armin Mesinovic • From Lamoni-- • Brandon Stanley, Graceland AmeriCorps member • Nicholas Gruich and Tristen Kelsey, students at Lamoni Middle School
