Compiled by the Staff of Latin NY in 1984 The Spanish language is one of the richest tongues of the earth. One of the tricks we Latinos use to spice up our conversation is the employment of el dicho -- the salt and pepper proverbs that hit home for any number of situations. These "indirectas", properly inserted into a conversation can cut through mountains of verbosity and quickly get to the point in question. Besides the dichos listed below, we also use what can be called proverbial expressions. These expressions, not to be confused with dichos, are perhaps as piquant and exotic as the proverbs. Examples: "Ojo por ojo", "Diente por diente", are dichos. No soy plato de segunda mesa, is a proverbial expression. Dicho Numero Uno El hombre propone y Dios dispone. Man proposes and God disposes Dicho Nymero Dos Palo que nace virado, virado se queda A tree that blooms twisted remains twisted Less
