WATEN is an EU Project under the Tempus program. It is mainly concerned with introducing a new program in water resources management and environmental Engineering to the post-graduate level at the civil Engineering department of the faculty of Engineering, Helwan and Ain Shams Universities. The new postgraduate program will offer the students two chances; a) either to have a two-year diploma, or b) to write a thesis work after completing two- semesters and then get a M.Sc. in water management and environmental studies. In addition to the postgraduate program, the project will also contribute to update some courses in the post-graduate level and introduce new courses. The updates will also include developing electronic form of the materials for the courses. Within the framework of the project, the Egyptian academic staff will be trained to enhance their teaching capabilities as well as IT skills. The existing laboratories will be extended and upgraded to include also the environmental related experiments and in turn serve more students and activities. One important aspect is that the project will enable also enhancing the IT infrastructure to and the IT administration team. Strong consortium members will be participating in the project. The staff of Aachen University (Germany) will be responsible about water management related aspects as well as IT issues. The waste water, air pollution as well as other laboratory related activities will be the responsibility of UNESCO-IHE. A concept is already specified to ensure the project dissemination and sustainability. The mechanism of the quality control and the monitoring of the activities are built in the mainframe of the project. The coordination activities of the project are in the responsibility of the Egyptian consortium member, who will collaborate with the other members to successfully manage the project.
