Built in 1921 to provide irrigation water from the Rogue River in Southern Oregon to local farmers, Savage Rapids Dam blocked easy fish passage both upstream and down stream. As the dam deteriorated and grew old and fish runs declined, local people decided that the dam needed removal and a modern pumping plant be installed for irrigation needs. This is the story of the Removal of Savage Rapids Dam, a fifteen year legal and political battle for change.
