Veteran Martin was a staff sargeant in the Airforce, the 437 Trop Carrier Command. They were in the invasion of Normandy and brought in paratroopers and gliders prior to the beaches. They dropped paratroopers from the 101st Airborne and 82nd Airborne at St Elglis which then was the first city taken by Americans in WW II. As Gus states 'they were expendable as long as the paratroopers and gliders were delivered safe and on time". Once while training in England visibility was so poor that a flare dropped from a German recon plane lit the area enough to restore fotrmation and land with no injuries. Thanks for your service Gus!
