The Singing Plant is an installation that lets the audience interact with a natural plant. When the plant is touched it gives feedback in the forms of sounds and light. The more people touch the it, the more enegetically it responds. The sound gains volume and the light in the room grows from dim to bright.
Building from the concept of the singing plant, we created a tree that reacts to touch, brightening and dimming LEDs within its branches. Using a AC switch mode power supply as a switch mode generator to create noise, the plant’s capacitance is measured, and added to when a human touches it (thus adding capacitance). As the voltage varies, the noise changes and is filtered in such a way that the lights get brighter as the tree is being touched. Depending on how long the tree was touched for, t...
A short but fun filled visit to Canada, with a brief appearance in Las Vegas.
Half Machine got a number of old non commissioned wheelchairs and has begun testing their dexterity to see how they could perform as robots!
Corsets have an intricate history, being both celebrated and criticized many times. The corset has been seen as a form to create the 'ideal' hourglass figure both for women and men. It has been extended in use from formal occasions, to everyday use, to the realm of fetish themes. When someone finds another physically attractive, their body will respond with a higher heart rate, as one physiological effect. As a person's heart rate rises, the corset will tighten, automatically ensuring the pract...

A project developed by several students from Malmö Hogskola K3 and Half Machine artists. LED Matrix displays show male/female signs on toilets, and switch according to how many times doors open, user controlled wheel input, and electrical currents passed through people when they touch. This video shows a night of prototyping all three aspects of the user controls. Installation for night clubs!Daniel BrynolfVanessa CarpenterJonas ErikssonMads HøbyeNicolas Padfield
