Institutionalized during the 98th founding anniversary of the civil government of Palawan, the celebration is focused on showcasing the historical, cultural, agricultural, investment and trade potentials of the province with the participation of the different municipalities, the private sector and non-government agencies. “Baragatan”, coined from the Cuyunon (a local language) word “bagat” which means to meet, is a meeting, a convergence, an assembly of people and culture. Baragatan provides an opportunity for all sectors and cultural groups to showcase their varying cultures, colorful lifestyles, crafts and handicrafts. It will be an occasion for all to explore Palawan’s splendor as tourism attractions and investment opportunities are also highlighted. This year, Baragatan will be an twelve day long festival that will showcase Palawan’s uniqueness and its local government units’ inimitability and individuality. It will highlight “convergence” as the heart and very essence of the celebration where Palaweños all over the province and all those who have made Palawan their home gather together to share their commonality and distinctness and celebrate. As an innovation, some of the events of Baragatan 2008 will be held in the municipalities where local government units can be the mini-point of convergence. To showcase the abundance of Palawan’s rich marine resources, Guinness Book of Records will be invited for the “longest seafood grill”.
