Can you make money from in-app advertising? That's the question that brought John Hotovy, founder of Atonality Mobile to UNTETHER.tv. John developed the auto tune app, TuneMe, for Android and offered it for free supported by advertising through the traditional mobile models. After hundreds of thousands of downloads he's got some great insight into generating revenue (you can do it without a million downloads), product design and development (a learning curve in UI development) and marketing. We do take our time discussing the different advertising services he has used - AdMob and Pontiflex AppLeads - and which has been more successful for him (hint: NOT AdMob). What I loved about this episode was John's openness to try just about anything for TuneMe. Although he hails from Lincoln Nebraska his story is something happening all over the world and all because of mobile.
