A look at the retro countdowns that broadcast television stations once used to cue their anchors. Countdowns like this one were electronically spliced on the front of the footage to insure accurate timing as the director counted down the seconds to first video via what was known as an ifb device worn by the “talent” in their ears. In the pre-digital era, film and/or video tape could shrink or stretch due to atmospheric conditions. That required the countdowns to be specially produced for each season of the year. This example was meant to "air" from late October to early February of the year 2005 but saw limited service as the coming of the digital age made countdowns like these obsolete.
