Turtle Island Project: Wealthy exploit and silence Native Americans, Indigenous cultures, women, children and nature (Marquette, Michigan) - Native Americans and other Indigenous peoples plus women, children and nature are degraded and silenced by the rich and powerful, said Turtle Island Project Director and Co-founder Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard recently while discussing Author Derrick Jensen's book "A language older than words."Rev. Hubbard said some Americans - often wealthy white men and some corporations - exploit and ignore the voices of Indigenous peoples like Native Americans and other cultures and the voices of women and children - and ignore the cries of nature because we live in a silent world."This silencing is central to the workings of our culture," Hubbard said."The staunch refusal to hear the voices of those we exploit is crucial to our domination of them," Hubbard said."Religion, science, philosophy, politics, education, psychology, medicine, literature, linguistics and art have all been pressed into service as tools to rationalize the silencing and degradation of women, children, other races, other cultures, the natural world and its members." Hubbard said. The third in a series, this video was made as Hubbard made two presentations on September 24, 2008 during the third annual UNITED Conference at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan.Related Links:Turtle Island Project:Official website of Author Derrick JensenWikipedia on Author Derrick JensenDerrick Jensen book "A language older than words."Amazon.com U.S.Amazon.com U.K.Chelsea Green on Derrick Jensen bookMore info on Derrick Jensen:http://www.pressaction.com/news/weblog/full_article/awards12292006/http://www.blackoakmedia.org/interviews/jensen.htmlhttp://ascentmagazine.com/articles.aspx?articleID=282&page=read&subpage=current&issueID=38http://www.nocompromise.org/issues/26jensen.htmlJensen's latest book "endgame"White Buffalo Calf Woman Society, Inc.
