BEYOND WAR AWARD - 1985 - Five Continent Peace Initiative This archival 85-minute video highlights the 1985 Beyond War Award recipients -- THE FIVE CONTINENT PEACE INITIATIVE and the historic television satellite FIVE CONTINENT SPACEBRIDGE. The annual Beyond War Award for eight years (1983-1990) honored the great efforts of individuals, groups, and nations as humankind moves to build a world beyond war. In the mid-1980s, the Beyond War Movement had over 24,000 active members in twenty-three states and internationally understanding that war had become obsolete and conflicts must be resolved without violence. Volunteer citizen-educators hosted thousands of "Interest Evenings" and hundreds of "Orientation Meetings" in living rooms and classrooms across the United States, and in Canada and Germany.
