Serna, bass viol & Jason Moy, harpsichord Neuqua Valley High School Auditorium, 2360 95th Street, Naperville, IL 60564. In March 2008, ‘Viols in Our Schools’ partnered with Neuqua Valley High School’s Chamber Strings, the highest level string ensemble at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, IL. Dr. Phillip Serna spent 4 rehearsal sessions working with string students on Baroque style for the March 18th performance of the Telemann Concerto in A-Major (TWV51:A5), Bach’s Sonata No.3 for Viola da Gamba & Harpsichord in g-Minor (BWV 1029) and Bach’s Concerto for Harpsichord in d-minor (BWV 1052). Harpsichordist Jason Moy collaborated with ‘Viols in Our Schools’ for the concert. The rehearsal sessions were co-taught by director Richard Bauer and Dr. Phillip Serna and addressed issues including performance practice, performing Baroque music with modern bows, continuo performance techniques for cellists and double bassists, as well as detailed and comprehensive approach to articulation and phrasing. After the March 18th concert, ‘Viols in Our Schools’ was in residency on March 19th demonstrating music for treble, tenor and bass viols, as well as violone. For more information on Phillip W.
