So, a wonderful man and Santa Claus in his own right, Charles Vestal puts together a yearly Xmas LP/EP. They are always amazing, and in fact, were responsible for the score to Will Sellari Saves XMas. Charles flattered me this year by including me in the invitation to put a song on the EP. As flattered as I was, it unfortunately didn't keep me from being a absent minded pretend musician. After repeated reminders, I cranked out this, sort of cover of Bells Will Be Ringing at the 11th hour. The song originally started out as a mock chiptune / industrial song called All I Want for Xmas is to Watch You Die! But since I apparently can't write lyrics anymore, and since I waited to the very last minute to do the song, the words / original theme fortunately never came to fruition. I say fortunately because A. I end up soundingly like a drunk Trent Reznor on the song and B. the song would have felt super Hot Topix (or is it Hott Topixxx?).So, I did what any idiot drained of inspiration would do after staying awake till 6AM, I searched the internet for suitable lyrics. Enter Bells Will be Ringing. I don't know about you, but if you read the lyrics to this song without hearing the soulful original backing music, it's dark as fuck. In fact, the lyrics read like someone is crying them out to a suicide hotline across a cell phone call from the ledge of a snow covered bridge. With lyrics in tow, I recorded the rest of the song, mixed it best I could and sent if off to Charles. Now that it was 9AM, I had no way of coming up with a clever Xmas band name or artist, so I instructed Charles to call it anything along the lines of "Hot Topic and 8bit". It was perhaps this factor along with general Peter Murphy play Santa Claus feel of the song which inspired Charles to call the band A Twilight Superfan. Thanks Charles!I used a bunch of Nintendo VSTi, which I'm sure someone will say is cheating but whatever, because I used an Emu Morpheus, some gate delay plugin, and a Chaos Pad. For the vocals I used the love of my life, my little Snowball USB mic.
