The Smartwool Experiment is a consumer report by Beck Tench, who is a long time Smartwool fan. Years ago, she realized that Smartwool socks do not live up to the expectations she had for a pair of $18/pair socks. She emailed Smartwool and they told her to return them. While it's nice that they have this sort of policy, Smartwool should simply make better socks. To illustrate her point, she's charting the progress of the wear and tear of her socks here. Will they live up to the standards she has for $18/pair socks or is Smartwool making socks that degrade quickly so that people buy them more often?
