There was a lot of excitement pulsing through the fresh fall air for the 1st Annual Peck Slip Pickle Festival in New York City. Lot's of people and lots of free pickles! It was a beautiful evening for our outdoor Japanese pickle party. A lot of people brought amazing homemade Japanese pickles. Japanese pickles are made with so many different vegetables, including some basic ones such as cucumbers with shiso (perilla leaves), radishes and cabbage to name only a few. But there were also Japanese pickles made with non-traditional vegetables such as cauliflower, Baby French Breakfast Radishes, Watermelon Radishes and Chiogga Beets. Hard to believe that for 10 amazing years now, Nancy Ralph has organized this awesome event to bring together the pickle community on the lower east side of NYC. Even more amazing is how it continues to grow and get better each and every year!
It was a bitter cold day at the pickle festival in Rosendale, NY. Nonetheless, more than five thousand people came to eat pickles and have a good time. The spirit of the pickle definitely kept everyone warm, or maybe was it the fried pickles?
