The Oregon Extension

About this original series

The Oregon Extension is an alternative semester program for Christian college students and other honest seekers. Every autumn since 1975, several dozen college students from Christian liberal arts institutions across the country, and a variety of secular and state universities, have taken a step “out of the mainstream” for an unusual semester of vigorous intellectual exploration. They’ve become part of a small community of learners on the banks of an old millpond in the Cascade Mountains of southern Oregon. Here, a faculty of five has created a semester-long adventure in ideas, and a study atmosphere that invites students to pursue the kinds of questions that build up during a college education, but that often don’t get the attention they deserve in the normal college routine. Questions like: What kind of person do I want to be? What do I believe about God, personal faith, the meaning of life? What kinds of relationships do I want shaping my life? What do all these facts and ideas mean, and what kinds of responses to they ask of me?
