New School Environmental Studies student Erica Schapiro-Sakashita spent the summer of 2009 a bit differently than most college students. She interned full-time at Stone Barns, a historic working farm and education center in Tarrytown, New York that provides food for the Manhattan farm-to-table restaurant Blue Hill. Listen as Erica discusses her experiences learning first-hand about the food production cycle, from planting to harvest, and her lasting commitment to bringing the concepts of traditional farming back to the city. We are grateful to the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation whose support has helped us to establish academically challenging opportunities to explore Environmental Studies.
