The Minnesota Project is a nonprofit organization that connects people with policy to nurture collaborations that build strong local economies, vibrant communities and a healthy environment. Our programs are focused on the development, conservation and efficient use of renewable energy; farm practice and policy that promote profitable farms that protect and replenish the environment; and the production and consumption of local, sustainably grown foods. Through collaborative leadership we demonstrate practical solutions as a basis for future policy. For over twenty-nine years we have fostered local empowerment, bridged diverse interests, encouraged shared values, and initiated working dialogues that create positive action and policy.

<blip:puredescription>This 90-Minute Webinar is an introduction to the Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP). BCAP, created as a key provision in the 2008 Farm Bill, looks to promote the cultivation of perennial bioenergy crops that show exceptional promise for producing highly energy-efficient bioenergy crops that preserve natural resources and that are not primarily grown for food or animal feed. BCAP will provide financial assistance to any biomass conversion facility or group of producers that contribute to the production of renewable biomass to use as an energy source. BCAP aims to relieve the dependency on commodity crops as an energy source and shift to more renewable, less strained biomass material. Our fruitful discussion includes Ryan Stockwell, Director of Energy and Agriculture at The Minnesota Project; Joel Tallaksen, Gasification Project Coordinator at University of Minnesota's West Central Research and Outreach Center; Gary Radloff, Director of Policy and Strategic Communications at Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection; and Kelly S. Novak, Planning and Analysis, USDA Farm Service Agency.</blip:puredescription>
