Animation featuring Prayer Banner: REPENT / MERCY / ... an on going community mournig project concerning the war in Iraq. Participants are invited to stitch the name of an American or Allied soldier or of an Iraqi citizen (in Arabic) who has died in the war on a small cloth coffin. The coffins are sewn onto the prayer banners as utterance spelling out the words REPENT, MERCY and so on. The Prayer Banners serve not so much as a memorial but as an opportunity for tapping into our collective grief. (2006)
