Guy Debord's concept of the "society of the spectacle" is evident in the growth of the internet and its capacity to make the private public. YouTube, blogs, and MySpace all provide "a social relationship between people that is mediated by images," where, "all that was once directly lived has become mere representation." KILL GUY!!! presents a slideshow of images culled from LiveJournal, a popular online social networking site accompanied by excerpts from Debord's seminal text and critical comments on its relevance in the 21st centruy. ArtHijack maintains that Guy's popularity has benefited from late capitalism, the very devil he despised. They seek to suggest how outdated Debord's ideas have become in the 21st Century's economy of experience. Employing Debord's own radical Situationalist tactics, ArtHijack intends to liberate the art world from Guy's hegemony. Links: http://www.arthijack.com
