This show will guide aspiring creatives in the very basics of Adobe Flash, addressing more complex issues as the series goes on. Using screen-recording software, examples and walkthroughs are displayed clearly and with narration. The series also strives to show common errors and mistakes, and ways of avoiding them. These videos are made by me, James Kyle. I'm a student at a university in Scotland preparing to enter my final year of a BA in Digital Art. The series is a development of my existing Adobe Flash tutorials on YouTube, itself an effort to reduce the need for friends to ask for help with common problems and difficulties with Flash.
I didn't want to cover this, though I thought I should. Shape Tweens are an aspect of Flash I've never really needed to use, though in my last term at university I met a few people who had used them to great effect. It inspired me to learn how to do them myself, and thus make this episode to share it with the world (lucky you!) Shape tweens are similar to motion tweens in that they allow you to make changes to an object on the stage in the frames between two keyframes. The key difference howev...
This video acts as a basic introduction to the concept of methods. Methods are one of the aspects of code that effect change in our animation. This video focuses on a single method - stop()l - and it's use on the main timeline and inside a movie-clip symbol.
Text is one of the aspects of Flash which I've seen cause many problems, most of which are relatively easy to fix. This video tutorial shows the three types of text, as well as how to embed typefaces either into the text objects themselves or as a symbol in the library.
This video introduces the concept of symbols as objects on the stage which can be given instance names. Instance names are the means by which we can refer to objects through ActionScript, whether these objects have been created at development or run time. This is an important issue to address, as it is the beginning of adding interactivity and non-linearity to your animation. The next video tutorial will be covering text in Flash, as most people I know that use it have teething problems. I'll ...
This video is not so much a tutorial on new topics or information, but rather a summarisation of the previous four episodes into one practical example. The bouncing ball animation is one I've seen in various web-sites and books, and was what my class were asked to perform by mycourse leader David Eaton back when I was a student at Glasgow's Central College of Commerce. As no new material is covered in the video you may want to skip over it. Soon I'll be covering objects and instance names, tex...
Motion guides allow more complex motion when applied to basic timeline animations. Whereas normal timeline animations can only move an object directly between two points, motion guides allow the object to follow a pre-set path. This video guide shows how to use motion guide layers in such a way.
This video demonstrates the basics of creating timeline animations using keyframes and motion-tweens.
This episode demonstrates how to create symbols, the building blocks of animation in Adobe Flash.
This is a short video tutorial on the various UI elements of Adobe Flash CS3.
