Alive & Kicking filmed The Ball 2010 being made at their factory in Nairobi. This is the ball that is making the journey from England to South Africa for the World Cup. The sound and video are a bit choppy, but this is the only copy we have of this important footage. Regardless, many thanks to Alive & Kicking for passing it on to us.
The Ball 2010 travelled through Europe and Africa (Morocco, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa) to the World Cup Opening Ceremony. The Ball 2010 was made by the not-for-profit Alive & Kicking in Kenya. The Ball visited Special Olympics projects in Africa, meeting their athletes, coaches and supporters, playing many games of Unified Football and helping to break down negative stereotypes about the intellectually disabled.
