Garden of The Groves, Grand Bahama Island - With a program designed to provide visitors with a unique Bahamian experience, and foster cultural and enriching memories between our visitors and volunteers, the People-to-People program delivered just that for the American home schooling family, the Harrisons who traveled from North Carolina to The Bahamas in February 2009. The Bahamas Weekly was on hand to catch the Harrison's first meeting and interaction with the Bahamian Simms family who also home school. Della Simms and her husband have four children and the Harrisons have seven. The families met at The Garden of the Groves which offered a unique educational experience to the Harrisons on Bahamas' plant life, as well as allowed some of the children to feed the heron that frequents there, under the guidance of Erika Gates. The garden's playground was obviously a big hit for both families. In this video you will hear from program coordinator, Thelma Stirrup of Grand Bahama Ministry of Tourism on how the People-to-People program works, how the Harrisons and Simms families where linked up, and on how Bahamians or tourists can become involved. Also speaking are both mothers, American Susan Harrison and Bahamian mom, Della Simms. Mrs. Simms' three daughters deliver a wonderful song performance about The Bahamas to their guests.
