Taos, Northwest, NM. - The history of Taos stretches back many years in history. This Pueblo is the longest lived in community in the country. The Spanish settled here in 1540, almost 600 years ago. Around the 1800s the mountain men started to inhabit the area seeking it's wealth of natural resources, wild game was abundant at this time. Taos is one of the most famous art communities in the southwest. The metro area is filled with artists, galleries, studios, art schools and seminars. There are many charming bars, restaurants, nightclubs, coffee shops and pubs where talented artists perform. The Rio Grande Gorge is located in the area and provides for good white water rafting fly fishing at certain times of the year. Taos, New Mexico.
