For myself, Henry Horenstein is kind of like that character actor you always recognize even if you don't always remember his name. I've been aware of Mr. Horenstein's photographs and books for many years but I didn't' always remember his name. He showed up on Saturday at the Afterimage Gallery here in Dallas and after meeting and filming him at his show opening I think I won't forget his name anymore. He showed images from his two books Animalia and Honky Tonk. Very divergent work. Almost looked like the work of two different photographers. Henry is currently instructor at the Rhode Island School of Design. He's taught photography much of his career. I found him gregarious, unpretentious and fun. I had an enjoyable night at the Afterimage looking at photos and listening to Henry discuss his work. If you weren't there this video is the next best thing.
