“Teacher, speak out!” goes to Cabrillo After five episodes hearing from K-12 teachers from six different county districts, this week “Teacher, speak out!” turns its attention to Cabrillo College and the impacts of their lost funding on teachers and students. The new episode will air 7:30 PM Monday and 5:30 PM Friday on cable channels 25 and 71. Seeking to bring concerns of teachers into the public arena, the Cabrillo show examines how students needing job training will be impacted as some classes are dropped and others are too full. The devastating reduction to programs serving disabled students and the college’s reliance on part-time instructors are challenged. Joining producer and moderator Peter Nichols are History Instructor Enrique Buelna, Digital Media Instructor John Govsky, Learning Skills Director Deborah Shulman, Stroke Center Instructor Beth McKinnon, and Cabrillo Stroke Center Director Debora Bone. “Teacher, speak out!” is a co-production of Peter Nichols and the Pajaro Valley Federation of Teachers. Upcoming shows will probe the difficult teacher negotiation impasse in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, drop out prevention and recovery, and high-stakes testing.
