The effects of the economy on wedding planning, in particular what kinds of dresses brides are choosing. This is a project I did with two other students in my News and New Media class at Northwestern University.
John Vergados, 22, had a retinal detachment in his left eye a few summers ago after a sports injuries to that side of his face many years earlier. After a series of four surgeries over six months, doctors were able to reattach the retina and restore his vision in that eye.
Tirado moved to the United States from Mexico in 1988. He started out washing pans at Bennison's and worked his way up through the ranks to becoming the bakery's main cake decorator. Four years ago, after another decorator quit, Tirado convinced the owners to let him try. He is completely self-taught and received his Master Baker's Certificate 4 years ago.
