    • renee + bart in Zanzibar

My sweetheart came down from Kenya to vacation on the tropical island of Zanzibar. I rented a big old dirtbike for getting around. We went on a tour of a spice farm, watched a kid build special shoes to climb a coconut tree, toured the ancient palace built for the Sultan in the 1800's and visited Freddie Mercury's tribute restaurant. What fun. This is me back in the comfort of Kimani's place cleaning up the records and enjoying the fruits of the hunt. Dont worry Muki, I'll use my new USM turntable to import these gems into digital format and get em to u soon!

    • upcountry getdown

Renee's grandma's all night memorial dance partyThe event was amazing! I arrived to find them having a catholic ceremony in like four different languages, none of which I could understand, as they celebrated the spirit and life of her Grandma. This shamba (farm/upcountry home) is about ten hours outside of Nairobi in Western Kenya in Luhya (a tribe) land. There was a band and I think they're called the Janmka Heatr Heatr soundsystem. Check out some photos from the event here
