Photographer and author Mark Pimlott talks about the photographs in his exhibition 'All things pass' at Stroom Den Haag (30 November 2008- 1 February 2009). The photographs feature urban terrains that appear to await events or have been witnesses to events past; and interiors that look to light from without or back upon their own artifice. He situates his work within the context of the work of other photographers who have taken the act of making photographs as a form of meeting with the other or the World. Common to all is the significance of time, attention, and silence; and a kind of clearing, a space between the photographer and the subject, through which the subject and the subject's relation to the photographer/viewer might exist.
