Westside Branch of the USGBC-LA Presents the Documentary "Rock the Boat" featuring panel Discussion

“The L.A. River - Can a revitalized river be a catalyst for a greener L.A.?” Join the Westside Branch of the USGBC-LA on Tuesday October 19 as they screen a 15-minute segment of the documentary, “Rock the Boat”, followed by a panel discussion. On July 7th the Environmental Protection Agency declared the entire concrete-lined Los Angeles River channel "traditional navigable waters," a designation crucial to applying Clean Water Act protections throughout its 834-square-mile urban watershed. A trek by approximately a dozen boaters down the L.A. River two years prior was consistently referenced in the EPA report as proof of its new status. This filmed trek and more on the L.A. River story has become “Rock the Boat.” "We want the L.A. River to demonstrate how urban waterways across the country can serve as assets in building stronger neighborhoods, attracting new businesses and creating new jobs." – Lisa Jackson, U.S. EPA Administrator
