Eric Corey Freed, AIA, LEED AP, Principal, organic ARCHITECTEric Corey Freed is a licensed architect and recognized pioneer in the tradition ofOrganic Architecture, first developed by Frank Lloyd Wright. A lifetimeproponent of individualism and sustainability, Eric Corey Freed knew he wantedto be an architect at the early age of eight. Promoting both an organic andecological approach to design, Eric wishes to provide an alternative to what hecalls the "harsh, style-driven fashions" that are so popular in architecture todayBorn and raised in Philadelphia, Eric Corey Freed attended Temple UniversityCollege of Architecture, graduating with honors in 1994. While a student, Erichad the opportunity to focus his concentration on Urban Design in Rome, Italy.During several years working in both Philadelphia and New York City, Ericbecame very active within the profession. He worked under acclaimed architect Beverly Willis, and helpeddesign two schools in New York. Their design for Manhattan Village Academy was widely published. Atthat time, noted architect and critic, Philip Johnson cited Eric as "one of the real brains of his generation."In 1996, Eric accepted a position in Santa Fe, New Mexico with a former apprentice of the master, FranLloyd Wright. While there, he had direct contact with both the most ancient and the newest ofenvironmental building materials. Seeking to expand his knowledge, Eric relocated to San Francisco in1997 to start his own practice and join the heart of the environment.kal movement.Eric's work has been exhibited in numerous venues. He has been a visiting critic at several schools ofarchitecture and the recipient of various awards and accolades. Eric teaches the Sustainable Designcurriculum at the Academy of Art University and Certificate Program at UC Berkeley Extension. Heserved as Founding Chair of Architecture for The San Francisco Design Museum. He is currently on theBoard of Directors of Architects, Designers & Planners for Social Responsibility (NorCal ADPSR), NaturalWorld Museum and a Committee Member of the AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) and theFriends of Kebyar. In addition, Eric is a Program Coordinator for the Environmental Committee of TheCommonwealth Club of California. Eric and organicARCHITECT advise companies around the world onvarious issues of design, sustainability and green building. Eric sits on the advisory boards of West CoastGreen, Urban Revision, Build It Green, craigslist Foundation, Green Home Guide, as well as numerousother organizations. In addition, Eric was co-founder and one of the editors of ecoTECTURE: The OnlineJournal of Ecological Design, a publication for people interested in the environment as well as a regularcolumnist for GreenerBuildings.com. He is author of "Green Building for Dummies" (Wiley, 2007) and thenew books, "Sustainable School Architecture," and "Green$ense: Rating the Real Payoff from 50 GreenHome Projects." A sought after public speaker, Eric speaks at nearly 50 events a year tirelesslypromoting his vision of innovative green design.14
