On 24 March 2010, the naked body of a Chinese woman, Ms Li Hong Yan, 24, was found floating in the lap pool of a bungalow owned by a wealthy Singaporean. Poor and desperate, Ms Li's family sold their land in Heilongjiang, China, to raise money for their trip to Singapore in order to claim their daughter's body. Over 20 anonymous donors in Singapore raised S$35,000 for the family.
