The Bomb Plant

Coming Soon: The Bomb Plant poisons its workers, practices the worst kind of discrimination, and destroys the environment. Now it is enjoying “a nuclear renaissance.” Local Democrats and Republicans ignore the environmental concerns and tout the jobs and money, as their predecessors have done for sixty years. The Department of Energy has convinced the Obama White House it can dispose of the world’s plutonium and uranium supply and lead America and the world into a safe nuclear future. The problem is that none of the technologies work – from getting rid of the radioactive waste left from the Cold War – the “legacy waste” – to burning in civilian reactors the excess pits, the hearts of nuclear bombs containing plutonium, the most dangerous substances known to man. These untested technologies (or failed ones when tested) exist only in a laboratory or the calculations of an engineer’s mind. But they are being built with 2009 Stimulus Act monies. The cost for taxpayers is enormous.
