The politics of movement in Myanmar

About this episode

TV-UN

This experimental video is based on clips of news and infotainment from the Myanmar, December 2007. It's a small exploration of relations between the concept of power and the concept of movement . How are the movements of a people staged, disciplined, defined and controlled in real life and in the media? And are there kinds of movements which are unseen or unheard of due to editing or due to other kinds of political control? It shows sports, military parades and an eternally clapping audience, but we edited in a weird way to show sudden tics and breaks, which doesn't fit into the perfect picture of Burma/Myanmar that the military junta is trying to paint. The accompanying sound is improvised electronic music using audio from Myanmar news broadcastings, ordinary Burmese people speaking, and traditional Burmese folk music.
