This week, the Pupils of St Peter's Primary School news team give us an insight into what is happening during our last week of term. We hear about the Nativity play, which will be taking place on Tuesday 13th December 2011 at our wonderful St Peter's Church. The KS1 children will go first at 14:30 and our KS2 will act out the last performance at 18:00. We hope to see you there! We also talk about our delicious Christmas Lunch, which will be served on Thursday 15th December. Our news team will be there filming this festive occasion. At St Peter's Primary School Walworth this week, our year six pupils put on a special performance for the parents. The performance was based on the poem "The Highwayman", written by Alfred Noyes. "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes is a classic poem that tells a good story with powerful imagery and a rhythmic cadence reminiscent of horses' hooves. The story tells of the highwayman's visit to see the beautiful Bess at the old inn and of the terrible fate they both meet. It's pupils news time again at St Peter's Primary School and this week, the girls talk to one of our year three pupils about their dramatic interpretation of the book "The Village that Vanished" during assembly. We also discuss Remembrance day, and the school shows it's respect by undergoing a two minute silence at 11am. It's assembly time at St Peter's Primary School, Walworth and this assembly saw our year three pupils acting out a wonderful book called "The Village that Vanished", written by Peace Award winner, Jane Addams. "The Village that Vanished" is an inspiring tale of one girl's struggle to preserve her people's freedom. Young Abikanile and all of the villagers of Yao feel safe hidden deep within the African jungle. But word has come that the slavers are on their way! Abikanile looks to her mother and her grandmother for strength and guidance. These two brave women come up with a plan to fool the slavers and protect their tribe. But as the villagers retreat into the forest, Abikanile finds that she too has the courage to help her people stay safe and free. Guy Fawkes Week... It's the first week of a new month here at St Peter's Primary School and what a month it is! November sees a number of important dates both at the School and Nationally. This month brings us Guy Fawkes Night, and the girls offer a little bit of useful advice about firework safety plus November also brings us Diversity Month. What's new at St Peter's? The St Peter's Primary School blog team are as always at hand to keep us all in the know with forthcoming events, news and activities at our school. Today the girls report on the very ghostly assembly held today by year six. Year six pupils have been working hard on their literacy, studying the many different genres that authors use to entertain us when writing. St Peter's Primary School, Walworth had an amazing day on Friday 30th September as children and staff spent the day dressed up as characters of Roald Dahl books and reading some of the many exciting titles written by this great author. The children and staff clearly enjoyed every minute as we can see from the picture gallery at the base of this page. Everybody has their favorite Roald Dahl book; however today the children had the opportunity to read, hear and watch tales from a wide range of titles. At the end of the day, some members of staff read some of their own favorite passages from Roald Dahl books and we also hear a poem that has never been published! It's School Council election day at St Peter's Primary School.The nominees have been chosen from year two through to year six, the ballet boxes are ready, the polling stations are up and armed with pencils and the ballet sheets are printed. All that remains is for the children to get voting for their favorite candidate. The polling day was a great success and this video captures the highlights of the day; including exclusive interviews with Caroline Richards, who very kindly joined us again from Southwark Council Electoral Services. Caroline spent thewhole day with us, talking to the children about the importance of electing a school council and how this will benefit the school. We also had the pleasure of a very important visit from Cllr Abdul Mohamed. St Peter's Primary School offers a huge welcome to its new blog team. It was sad to see our previous blog team move on; however, they are no doubt watching our new bloggers and will offer them helpful tips along the way. Our new year six are settling in to the role very well and will continue to grow and master the skills involved in sourcing and delivering news about our great school. Wednesday 7th see the first day of the new term at St Peter's Primary School. Father Andrew greeted our school with the first Mass of term. After many weeks of learning lines, learning songs, rehearsing, costume making, Year six presented an absolutely stunning adaptation of the stage musical, The Lion King! The musical took place in our very own St Peter's Church, Walworth and was an amazing success. The costumes and set looked fantastic, the children were in fine voice and our beautiful Church provided the perfect setting for what would be the very last performance by our year six pupils. St Peter's Primary School, Walworth hosted its very first ever spelling bee this week. The whole school took part in this grand spelling competition and everyone had alot of fun. We have some real spelling talent at St Peter's and the children really took to the challenge and did a fantastic job! Year four assembly production. Year four have been busy today at St Peter's Primary School. We had some visitors to year four today at St Peter's Primary School. Today John and Yolanda Houston joined our year four pupils to talk about how to prepare and build a mosaic. This exercise is in preparation for the large mosaic, which will be positioned at the entrance to the school and will be started next Wednesday. It's ECO Week at St Peter's Primary School from May 23rd through to 27th and the SchoolCouncil were presenting during assembly today discussing the many things we can do during this week. Some of the things we can do for the environment is walk to school rather than being driven to school. It is not only good exercise, but it also reduces polution due to the fact that you are not in a car. It also allows you to see some of the beautiful trees and plants we have available to us in our area. The entire school and parents had a real treat on Friday 25th March 2011 as a selection of our year six girls put on a fashion show! The girls graced us with their catwalk techniques as they modelled their very own designs, which were made at St Peter’s Primary School. The girls did a fantastic job both in creating their designs and in showing them off, supermodel style. Year two have been working very hard, preparing for their forthcoming SATs. Year six were lucky enough to have Tim Hole, Oral Health Promoter and his team from Kings College Hospital with them today discussing dental hygiene and the benefits of looking after your teeth. Tim organises the class into groups where they act out benefits of good dental hygiene using drama, dance, and song. It's Book Week at St Peters' Primary School and this week has seen many activities taking place regarding reading; one of which is pier reading. Before the Christmas break, year six were busy creating a specialdiary based on the book, "The Princess' Blanket". The diary would represent diary entries from the key characters in the book. Road safety is our key topic this week, and assembly today gave some pupils from year five the opportunity to present a short demonstration on what they learnt during their visit to St Bartholemews Church, where they took part in a road safety workshop. We also see the school saying goodbye to Jenny who is leaving us to become a top hair stylist!! Good luck Jenny. It was anti bully week at St Peters'Primary School and to help our children to understand the problems that can be faced through bullying were the Caboodle Arts Company. This video sees Jeremy from Caboodle act out a short interactive performance with year five. Jeremy played the part of a seasoned bully called Luke and the children are asking him questions about his life that start to reveal why Luke became a bully and the effect it has had on his life. St Peters' Primary school pupils were all busy in the kitchen last week, baking cakes for a huge bake sale for Children in Need. The Kitchen area was a wash with cakes as the children and staff produced tray upon tray of cakes for this great cause. The sale generated over £100.00 for Children in Need! Year six have been having fun with maths today! Yes that's right.....fun! Today they have conducted a number of experiments to gather data on how far each pupil can throw a bean bag. Once they have gathered all of the measurements, we meet them in class where they create a series of methods to record the data. These methods include tally charts, bar graphs and pie charts. Year five have been reading an excellent book called "The Princess'Blankets". Part of the book discusses a diary written by the King. In this video we find out a little more about the book and also hear some extracts from the childrens own diary entries that they have written as if they were the King from the book.
