It's just that most of the effort by 'Mech labs are to try and build and mantain existing designs, as well as upgrading them as new tech is (re)discovered.       Clanners are very proud. As in full of pride, and not the lion type (except Clan Celestial Lions... which probably doesn't exist) Anyway, if you really want to get up a Clan officers goat, there is one move that is gauranteed to do so- challenge them to one of THEIR Trials, under THEIR rules, and for kicks, give THEM the advantage.       Mercenaries apparently get paid by the hour. It's the only explanation as to why they would run a recon-in-force against a group of Clanners, pull out once they scout the navpoints and nowhere else... and then wait a week before running another sortie in the exact same area, just a bit further north...       Even though a cease-fire no longer officially exists between the Clans and the IS, there isn't any real fighting between them since the Clans lack the logistics for all-out war, and the IS is too busy with internal fighting.
