Sveriges andra mikrosatellit Astrid-2 sändes upp från den ryska raketbasen Plesetsk klockan 1257:07 sv.t. den 10 december 1998. Astrid-2 konstruerades och byggdes av Rymbolaget och styrdes från en markstation i Solna. satelliten forskade om rymdplasmafysik och fungerade till sensommaren 1999.

The satellite was put into an orbit at 1000 km altitude and it made significant contributions to space plasma physics during its operational life.
