Little Italy, New York, May 21, 2007-- Seven years in the making, the 87th branch of the New York Public Library opened today at 271 Mulberry Street aka 10 Jersey Street. Architects Rogers Marvel did a fabulous job renovating the ground floor, cellar and subcellar of this 1886 former manufacturing building. The locus for the ribboncutting ceremony was once occupied by the boiler room for the building's original candy factory. More recent tenants of the ground floor were Urban Archaeology--but that's another story.
