CB2 Votes No on NYU 2031 Land Grab: Overwhelming Opposition

New York, February 23, 2012--Andrew Berman of the Greenwich Village Society for Historical Preservation urges CB 2 to vote an unconditional "No" at a rally on East Houston and Sullivan St before the meeting at St Anthony de Padua where over 100 local residents, NYU faculty, students and employees testifieed against the NYU magaplan for 2 superblocks. Tonight's 'no' vote is a culmination of 5 years of wrangling with the NYU administration over their proposal to add 2.5 million sq feet of offices, classrooms, dorms, a hotel and a mall to their existing real estate holdings in the Village. With Larry Silverstein allegedly having difficulty renting WTC 2 and 3, it has been suggested that NYU has the option to fulfill their expansion ambitions in Tribeca.
