On Friday, June 19, 2009, after naming Prince Frederick Maryland's Capital for a day, Governor Martin O'Malley and his entourage spent the day in Calvert County. Later that night, Governor O'Malley and his Celtic band, O'Malley's March, headed south to St. Mary's City in St. Mary's County where they helped close the first River Concert of 2009. 2003 Tractor Pull Competition at the Calvert County and St. Mary's County Fairs in 2003. This is the hi-def DIVX version of the video. There is also a lower-res, smaller Flash Video file available here.The key to the tractor pull competition is the sled. Note the large box that sits on top of the sled. This is the ballast box. As the sled moves forward, a mechanism pulls the box forward on the sled incrementally. This places more and more weight onto the front skid which in turn increases the resistance to the pulling tractor.The competition is organized by weight class of the tractors.
