As part of the French Joint Command in the Indian Ocean, The Var and its fleet covers a massive area from East Africa stretching to the South China Sea. Unlike most warships that visit Hong Kong, The Var is not a combat vessel. It's mission is to provide logistical support to French and allied forces in its operating area. The ship includes 160 personnel and is also the home to the fleet's command staff.
