Some of the country’s biggest retailers united at a Skillsmart Retail summit to dispel the myths surrounding the skills system and pledge their support to their staff. Kingfisher CEO Ian Cheshire and Ryman owner Theo Paphitis spoke alogside managers from Tesco, Sainsbury’s, the John Lewis Partnership and Booths - giving real life examples of how they have incorporated qualifications into their training. Retailers also used the event at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, to state the importance of the retail workforce to their businesses – and to the country during the economic recovery.
