About this series:
Meet our neighbors under the surface of Pacific Northwest waters! See surprising colors, contrasts, cold water creatures that look like they came from outerspace. These submarine neighbors are part of the same ecosystem we are -- we all share the same fate. Each half-hour episode contains several short videos about the underwater world from a wide variety of perspectives: art, science, poetry, etc.

This episode illustrates that there are myriad methods of portraying the mysterious world beneath the surface of our waters. It begins with two very different ways of looking at oysters: the ecosystem point of view and a poetic perspective. These are followed by an impressionistic parody of a nature show and a, well, a nature show about sea pens and sea slugs with some of the best underwater cinematography I’ve seen in the Pacific Northwest. Then a beach in Montenegro is the site for juxtaposing the silent world with that above the surface, and another cinematographic master piece shows some inter-species relationships that even divers seldom see.
