Just after 11 p.m. on Monday Woodlands firefighters were dispatched to a house fire in Carlton Woods area of The Woodlands. As the first trucks pulled out of the station the orange glow in the sky told them that they had a working fire. Magnolia Fire Department was called in to assist. As they arrived on the scene they found a home at the end of South Lamerie which they estimated to be over 12,000 square feet heavily involved in fire. The home, which was in the final stages of construction. Firefighters were able to access three sides by the road, Sterling Ridge, South Lamerie Way and Pinnacle and set up ladder trucks. For almost 3 hours over 1.2 million gallons of water was used. At some points the flow had to be cut back to allow the water system to catch up. Just before 2:30a.m. the fire was brought under control. With the homes roofing consisting of concrete tiles weighing over 5 pounds each firefighters were forced to fight the fire from the outside. several times they were allowed to enter just enough to shut down flames But with portions of the roof still collapsing they were forced to retreat. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal was notified and will be responding Tuesday morning to start the investigation into the cause.
