Engineering consultant Larry Will gives an update on the new FCC AM directional rules which permit much less field work for new stations and major upgrades. He also discusses a proposed FCC Rule consolidating and simplifying the determination of need for detuning nearby towers to protect AM stations.Presenter's corrections to his FCC AM talk:I had a slide set which was prepared before the final FCC Rules were adopted and which contained the broadcast coalition's request. I want to correct some information I put out at the meeting. The adopted rules for modeling do:- Allow the use of non-uniform towers- Allow the use of top loading. However, experienced users will tell you that NEC2 or 4, rather than mininec, should be used for these cases.- Allow modeling only on series fed (base insulated) towers. (I got that one correct.)Finally I suggested that, in general, when correcting for the modeling errors, that the towers must be made electrically shorter at one point and then I said they have to be made longer towards the end. The correct answer is it could require either. My apologies for the confusion.Regards,Larry WillA higher-resolution Windows Media version is available from the drop-down box on this episode's permalink page.
