This talk will delve into the mystical world of RubyGems, starting with the basics and staying there. This will be an opinionated and pragmatic look at how to use the standard ruby packaging system. Starting with nothing but an empty directory, Christopher will walk through the creation of a gem, demonstrating how to test, build and publish that shiny new gem. Christopher will discuss tools he uses, and why. The ever changing opinions on how to manage the libraries. Touchy topics like generating the gemspec or manually editing it, and conventions such as naming the commands, module and requiring rubygems. About Christopher: Christopher is a principal software engineer at ZipList, and before that Symantec. He began programming Ruby in 2007, and in addition to maintaining internal gems at work he released several utility Gems as open source, which can be found on github.com. He is up on the web at Codeography.
