Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, the minds behind "Tron: Uprising" and writers of "Tron: Legacy," stopped by the CBR Yacht at Comic-Con International in San Diego 2012 to talk about the "Tron" animated series, mentioning that they were helping to develop the sequel to "Tron: Legacy" and there is a script that the pair are "really excited about." Horowitz and Kitsis led off by speaking about the unusual aspects of "Tron: Uprising" and what sets it apart from a traditional Disney animated show, including the animation style and visual look of the show, which has a lot to do with showrunner and director Charlie Bean. "Charlie just has such a great visual sense that he understood he had to take the spirit and the DNA of both films but kind of do his own thing," said Horowitz. "We think he just really nailed it, visually. In my office, I actually just have a poster of one of his visual landscapes." As "Tron" fans growing up, Horowitz and Kitsis noted a number of aspects that developed their fandom, citing the idea of organisms inside a computer and (as Horowitz put it) "a 'Wizard of Oz' for the Atari generation" as things that cemented their interest in the property. The creators also mentioned how far ahead of its time the original was, crediting "Tron" writer/director Steven Lisberger for bringing some radical new ideas to the table. "To really realize that he was so ahead of his time when he created 'Tron' and now the world had caught up to it, you could now explore the world, talk about this world in a way that everybody has the vocabulary," Kitsis said. "Everybody has that understanding because it's part of their everyday lives." In terms of "Uprising," the creator said they would be exploring a lot of the leftover mysteries from "Tron: Legacy" and start to answer some other remaining questions while further building the world of "Tron" and exploring the Grid. The pair also teased a public access show from their college years -- "Hot Tonight," on the air in Madison, Wisconson featuring two local comedians -- and their creative process writing together.
