Maximising the impact of research on policy or practice

Speaking during the the research communication workshop: 'Maximizing the Impact of Agricultural Research in Africa, ODI's John Young suggests ways to maximize the impact of research by: 1) knowing your policy objective, 2) understand the policy context, who's involved, what their positions are and how these match your evidence, and 3) generate the right kind of communication media to get messages across, especially working with other organisations and identfying champions who can influence their colleagues. The Addis Ababa workshop was held 20-21 October 2008. It was organized by the Global Development Network (GDN) in partnership with the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), the World Bank Institute (WBI), and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), with support from the Information and Communications Technology – Knowledge Management (ICT-KM) program of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
